The Michigan Challenge Balloonfest is on its way for the 27th year!! It will be June 24 - 26 at the Howell High School complex.  Large crowds come every year to see hot-air balloon launches, performances by sky-divers and kite flyers and many other family friendly events.  The balloon launches are the main highlight.  The field is one where people can legally get within feet of the pilots and see the whole process, from inflation to flying, right before their eyes.

The mass balloon launches take place every evening between 6 - 8 pm. What a colorful site!! The balloons will return between 6 - 8 am the next morning.  Morning fly-ins are best time to see the competition.  Pilots will be challenged to drop a baggie from their balloon to land as close as possible to an X-shaped target on the field.

Another must see is the Balloon Glow Skydiving Night Show on Saturday night, which sky-divers wear custom designed special effects pyrotechnics and leave a trail of sparks across the sky so bright it can be seen up to 20 miles away.  This event takes place after the stage performance of the Bob Seger tribute band, Lookin' Back.

Other highlights are the MediLodge Fireworks show on Friday night and a performance by the Windjammer Stunt Kite Team, which will be featuring remote-controlled kites for the first time.  Also, the Yankee Air Museum will provide B-25 flyovers and an on-site display of a T-33 aircraft.  B-25 rides will be available for purchase.

Up, Up and Away!! Another great event in Livingston County!! For more information, go to www.michiganchallenge.com.
